CWI Bus Inspector

About the Role 

VAI is seeking a CWI Bus Inspector to provide full time support for 6 to 10 months in Winnipeg, Canada. Candidate will perform oversight, weld, and other inspections on new build buses to ensure compliance and conformance with contract documents, policies, and federal/state regulations. Previous CWI experience required and working knowledge of Buses a plus. 

Key Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include interfacing the contractor and client and writing reports documenting inspections and work performed including: 

  • Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control inspections and testing including, but not limited to in-process, FAI, welding, mechanical and electrical inspections throughout the assembly process. 

  • Inspect frames and vehicle assemblies. 

  • Interpreting plans, specifications, and other contract documents for compliance with the work. 

  • Review contractor’s work plans, drawings and installation procedures and test procedures. 

  • Witness and audit pre-delivery and acceptance tests. 

  • Effective communication in shop and office environments. 

  • Timely preparation and submittal of proper documentation upon completion of inspections, including electronic records and digital photographs, and associated file management and organization. 

  • Coordinate assistance with the Project Management staff to resolve problems and/or acquire technical input. 

  • Professional conduct while working with prime, agency and car builder personnel. 

  • Punctuality and responsiveness to emails, texts, and phone calls. 

Qualifications 

  • 3-10 years Quality Assurance / Bus Project experience. 

  • High School Diploma or GED. Some college preferred.  

  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)  

  • Experience with inspection of welds, electro-mechanical assemblies, wire routing & terminations.  

  • QC/QA background in a manufacturing environment. (Not just receiving inspection experience) 

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and drawings. 

  • Ability to create MS Word documents and embed photos with clear and concise descriptions.  

  • Knowledge of best workmanship practices & bus industry standards.  

  • Ability to identify nonconforming conditions based on criteria. 

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Ability to travel to other locations if needed. 

  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to team collaboration.
